Ramadan

This week was the official start of Ramadan. Here I sit trying to rest on a Sunday afternoon in my bedroom....all I can hear is the chanting of prayers. It feels like they are a bit louder than normal. Am I just imagining that they are louder...because I so want that nice Sunday afternoon nap....or is it because of Ramadan?

A few days ago Ramadan started with the Puasa or what we call the fast. The mosque sounds the call of prayer at 3am so that the people will know (we know too actually because it is LOUD) to get up and eat and pray before the sun rises on a new day. They then fast until sunset which is about 5:30 in the evening. Meanwhile, the streets are quiet....no street sellers driving around selling their food. Most places are closed for lunch. Dinner time is quite different and things are busy and noisy. People are grumpier because they are hungry.

This will go on for the next month. Please be thinking of the people here.
