So encouraged!

As you already know-we had a wonderfully encouraging weekend at Gympie Baptist Church this past Sunday. What a special church! I will try to find time to post some photos later today or tomorrow.

Below is what the pastor wrote on their bulletin...wow! How awesome! It really helps to put things in perspective. The Lord is really blessing us through the people in Gympie!

What if Gympie only had 2 Christians? At Gympie Baptist Church we have about 220 regular attenders including adults and children (you only see about 150 on a typical Sunday because on any given Sunday, about 1/3 of the church does not attend the Sunday service).

Can you imagine though, if our church of 200-odd people was the only church in Gympie? Actually, let’s up the stakes. Can you imagine if our church of 200 was the only church in the entire state of Queensland. That’s right, 200 Christians in the whole of Queensland.
Now of course if there were only 200 Christians in the whole of Queensland, they probably wouldn’t all be in Gympie. If we assume that the Christians were evenly spread out throughout Queensland, then Gympie would have only 2 Christians. Would you be one of them?

Can you imagine if you were one of the 2 Christians in Gympie? Or one of the 200 in the whole of Queensland? What would it be like? Or what if you were one of those that wasn’t a Christian? What chance would you have to hear the Gospel? Who would tell you? Could those 2 Christians in Gympie do all the work? Could the 200 Christians in all Queensland take the Gospel to the all Queenslanders? I don’t think so. I think they would need help, outside help, and lots of it.

You might think this scenario is ridiculous. Well, it is ridiculous, but it’s also true. Shane and Marlana are preparing to go to a people group in South East Asia with the same population as Queensland – about 5 million people. The number of Christians in that entire people group is actually a bit less than our church – less than 200. What would it be like to be a Christian there – or more to the point – what would it be like to be a non-Christian? Who would be your hope of hearing of the saving Good News of Jesus Christ!

Shane and Marlana can only go with our support. As we hear from them today, I would encourage each of us to think of how we can support them to speed them on their way so they can get the Good News to those 4,999,800 people who don’t know Jesus. And they can’t do the job alone. Perhaps you could join them?

Thanks Gympie Baptist Church...for the encouragement when we needed it. Thanks for getting alongside us. Thanks for praying...for giving...and for your willingness to be part of our journey as we follow the Lord to take the Good News to the Unreached.
