I got a text this morning from Shane saying he was boarding the plane on his way home. He should get back here at about 8pm tonight. The kids are so excited! We are all packed and ready to go this afternoon. Hopefully, we only have a 2 hour drive, but we will be leaving at a busy time of day. I have packed everyone a snack and dinner in case we are stuck in traffic and the kids are hungry. Travelling with kids...I am always having to think ahead and prepare food! If my kids get hungry, we are in serious trouble. We can usually deal with anything as long as we arent hungry.
I had an interesting evening last night. Rats are a reality here, and I've dealt with it before. We had a huge problem with them in our kitchen in Vietnam. In fact, we would usually trap one every night in the trap on the kitchen bench!!!! We have rats in our backyard. I have seen them, and then I also hear them travelling through the gutters and pipes outside. Well, last night, I was walking to the kitchen when I saw a rat jump from my toaster to a cupboard and then hide underneath! Now, I've been cleaning all morning, and I cant find the little creature (although, I'm not sure what my plan is if I catch him or see him...maybe try to kill him with wood or the broom or something). I'm sure it has gone into a bedroom. I had to not scream as I didnt want to wake the kids....then they would really have nightmares!!!! So, I went and bought some glue...and I will leave out some traps while we are gone. Here they get special glue mats and put food on it, then the rat gets stuck and dies! In Vietnam, we used traps, then drowned them once they got caught in the trap. Sometimes, though, I just released it into the alley again. I only saw one so I hope that is all there is. We havent had a problem with them inside the house yet, but last week I saw some poop and I was sure it wasnt gecko poop. Rats make me weak!!!!!! I'm such a girl!!!!
Well...I better run. Pray for safe travels for us all. We cant wait to see Shane. Pray for a fruitful few days with our teammates. Pray we are an encouragement to them, and that we can just enjoy our time together to rest and focus on the Lord. See you when we get back....and hopefully, I come home to some dead rats!!!!
