Gross!

Well, I have been in bed sick for the past 2 days. I have even lost 2 kgs from being sick!!! I've just now started eating some rice again so hopefully I'm on the mend. I am so very thankful for a good, running toilet!!!! This time last week, we did not have a toilet and were using the little swatty potty at the back of our house.

Here is what happened....

I was flushing the toilet one morning, when I noticed what seemed to be a lot of trash coming up from the bottom of the toilet. Well, it wasnt trash at all....it was pooh! It seems the septic tank was full....in fact, I'm pretty sure that it has never been emptied before. Normally, houses dont have septic tanks. The stuff just flows down the drains in the street-like most houses here.

We called the owner of our house, and they came over and wanted to check the pipes to make sure it wasnt clogged, even though we had opened up the septic tank and it was FULL! So they took our toilet apart only to discover that the septic tank was full like we had said in the first place.

They seemed to believe it was full because we use toilet paper, but indeed it is full because it has never been pumped! You see....Indonesians dont use toilet paper....they use water and their left hand!

They ended up pumping the septic tank on Monday. The truck wouldnt fit in our gate so they just laid pipe over the front yard and pumped it that way.

What an ordeal! Now that I have been sick this week....I am so glad that I can use a normal toilet and flush my paper!!!!!
