We had a bit of a rough day yesterday. We woke up to two little boys fighting constantly! Literally at each other's throats! We left at 10:30am to go to meet our friend to visit 2 language schools. We visited both. Then, we were able to go and visit the school we would like the boys to go to. By the time we got done, it was 2:00pm and we had 3 tired and hungry kids! Usually, I would have just kept the kids home, but I needed to go to meet the language school staff as well.
The times we originally thought for the boys class times has changed. Dave's class would be from 10:00am to 12:00am everyday and Noah would go to class from 7:30am till 11:00am. This is a bit of a headache because we need to both do language in the morning as well. So how much running around are we able to do? We dont want to push ourselves too hard. At the moment, we are just going to take some time and get settled into our own language school before we make a final decision about the boy's school. I really want them to have this opportunity, but I dont want to run us into the ground in the process!
We actually started language class today! We are just giving one of the schools a trial period to see if we like them. The teacher came to the house. Shane did his lesson while I watched the kids and then I did my lesson. It went pretty well. I did school with the boys while Shane studied, and then he took the kids on a walk while I studied. This will only happen this week and we are just doing basic alphabet and sounds...greetings...etc. Next, week we go to KL to get our visa. Then, nothing happens here the last week of Ramadan. At least we have gotten started!
We both thought it went well. Shane went a bit long in his lesson (and he was first) so I wasnt real impressed that he went over on my time!!!!! I am really struggling to roll the "r" sound. Oh...it is hard teaching the mouth to do something it has never done before! I feel like I am going to cough up my tonsils! The teacher thought our "ng" sound was real good, but that is something we perfected in Vietnam!! We worked for ages to get that sound right and now that sound is used in this language too and it wont be a worry for us!
After a tough day yesterday, we both got up at 6:00am and did our quiet times and prayer times. We've decided to make this a priority. It was really good to start our day off that way...in the quiet with the Lord. One of my verses today was Proverbs 20:13, "Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and your will have food to spare." Ha! I love the Lord's sense of humor!
We ended up having a great day today...even the kids did better. Sometimes, I feel like I am not struggling so much with the culture as I am with the kids. Re-establishing routines, security, and boundaries has been the toughest thing so far as well as looking at how I am going to home school and help the kids learn Indonesia, etc. Language learning is a whole different ballgame with kids. Oh to remember the "easy days" when we just rode off to language school for 2 hours alone! It will be nice once everything is all worked out.
Please pray for us as we have the decisions to make. Maybe we wait on putting the boys in the school? (They were so excited though about the school and new friends)!!! Maybe we just settle ourselves in language learning first and see what we can handle. Or maybe we give it a go and be efficient with our time. We can always change things around if they are not working. Everything is flexible. We have a few weeks before we need to make decisions. Pray with us? Well...I've rambled on enough for now! Thanks for listening!
