This morning started out fairly normal for us all. We all slept REALLY well last night. Shane ended up calling us at 7:30pm and the boys got to talk to him so that was really great. We got off to a great start. We took Noah to school and then I took Dave and Maggie to play on the playground for awhile. Noah's school is really great in that they let expats use the library and playground pretty much any time we want. I must say that I love going to the school. It is just beautiful. Nice gardens and a pretty campus.
We played for about half an hour. Then, we left to go home. As I was pulling into our gate, I saw my closest local friend waiting for me and she was carrying her daughter. Her daughter has been really sick the past week with fevers, etc. She took her to the doctor 2 days ago, and the doctor gave her medicine and told her that if she was still sick then it was probably Typhoid (which needs serious medicine). All the doctor did was check her over....no blood work.
So they come in...the girl can barely walk...she is coughing...vomiting...and her fever is really high. Honestly, why cant these things happen when my husband is home? My first concern was for them. I am not a doctor or a nurse. I only have first aid training. My next concern was about my own kids. I dont know what this is. Is it contagious? My kids love the little girl, her name is Okta. In fact, she is on the compassion list, but because they are believers, they are last on the list and she still has no sponsor. They are so poor. In fact, they have a dirt floor in the "house" in their village.
So, I got her to lay down and got them some water, etc. Then I turned to look at Dave, who seemed scared out of his wits. This is the thing about Dave....He may be naughty and love to make trouble...hehe! But, out of all my kids, he is the most caring and the most compassionate. He was worried sick about Okta, and kept asking me if she was going to be ok. I told him to get in his room with Maggie and play. I thought it best to get them away from her. He obeyed no questions asked. How awesome is that? Maggie didnt obey as much...but that is to be expected with her age.
There is a good doctor's clinic at a stadium in town for poor people. They are actually pretty good. So, after calling my mentor here, I put her in a taxi and sent her there with money to pay for the doctor, medicine, and taxi home. She did not ask for money at all, and you may not think this is right to give her money, but she has nothing. And to us 5 dollars is nothing to give someone to go to the doctor and to get medicine. How helpless do we feel when our kids are sick? Oh man, I had that feeling. I told her not to come back here, but to stay with Okta until she is better.
Please pray for them. I am really concerned. I actually wonder if she has Dengue. I just dont know. The coolest thing though...is that Dave came out of his room and said a prayer for them. How awesome is that!!!!! He is quite worried for them. It was really stressful, but I am on top of the world right now seeing some awesome character traits come out in Dave when it was most needed!
To top it off, I just got an email from a supporter telling me she woke up at 5am and was prompted to pray for me and the boys. Thank you Jesus.
Here is a picture of the chain we made for Shane yesterday to count down the sleeps until he comes home. After this morning, only 2 more sleeps till Daddy is home!
